We continue to need to lock the gate at night. A paved walkway was added to the left of the entrance for foot traffic. We have experienced continued problems with people dumping household trash in the inside barrels and taking water from the water spigots. Locks have been purchased for all of the water spigots. The large dumpster has a lock on it. An additional $10,000 donation from the Theodore Schmults fund held with the Taos Community Foundation was received again this year. We would like to use this money towards replacing the old wooden fence across the front of the cemetery. The quote to replace the fence with an iron one is approximately $30,000. We need to raise additional funds. There is one remaining memorial bench available. If anyone is interested in purchasing this in honor of a loved one, or in support of the cemetery, please contact Thom Wheeler. The contribution including a plaque and installation is $1,500. Annual Maintenance Fees Annually, we request at least $25.00 per burial gravesite in every plot be submitted to Sierra Vista Cemetery to maintain the premises. When you send your payment, please describe which sites you are paying on and who the owner/family of the site is. Remember, this is an annual maintenance fee on all gravesites owned whether they are vacant or utilized, and very much needed for the support of the cemetery. Make checks payable to Sierra Vista Cemetery and mail to: Sierra Vista Cemetery PO Box 2103 Taos, NM 87571 Another Option: Perpetual maintenance fee - In lieu of paying annually you may choose a one-time fee of $500, to contribute to the costs of cemetery operations ^. This is a per burial space fee. ^ Operations include, but are not limited to: general maintenance, repairs, cemetery improvements, security, insurance, water, garbage pick up, caretaking, opening/closing gate, planting, and promotion.
